Dragondrums focuses mainly on Peimur and the shenanigans surrounding him. McCaffrey *really* loves to write about the bullying and abuse of children and I'm really quite heartily bored and sick of it. She also has zero problem calling people names ("fat" and "stupid") which no doubt is a product of her time. I remember those words being used liberally back in the day - but I really didn't like them even then. I skipped the worst parts of the bullying. Ugh.
Other than that, Dragondrums was entertaining. I found the audiobook free on YT so I could listen along while I knit. The narrator, Sally Darling, who also narrated Dragonsong and Dragonsinger, was absolutely excellent.
I think I need to reacquaint myself with this whole series. I read pretty much the whole thing back in the day and am interested to see how it holds up now.
