A young man's Grandfather died.  He discovers his Granddad was not, in fact, special ops, but rather a Galactic Peacekeeper.  In company with an AI combat bird, Perry, Netty (the ship's AI), and Torina, adventures happen and shenanigans ensue.

Lots of shenanigans.  The book is pretty episodic.  It's a comfortable book in that there are no real high stakes.  Maybe I've been far too traumatized by novels in the past, but I kept expecting terrible things to happen...and they really didn't. Things get sorted out easily and quickly.  I'd say this is a great introduction to sci fi for middle school readers.  There's some language, but mostly a few instances of "holy s**t" and that's about it.  There's some suggestive content, but no sex at all.  The violence is pretty sanitized.

Honestly, I got bored.  It's a nice enough book, completely inoffensive, and occasionally humorous, but I had to really persevere to get through it.

I think there are ?13? more books in the series.  I probably won't read them.
