Carl is taking care of his girlfriend's cat, Princess Donut the Queen Anne Chonk. When Donut randomly jumps out of the window in the middle of a freezing cold night Carl goes outside to rescue her. Then the world ends. Most unfortunate. Carl enters a hole that opens into the ground because it's really bloody freezing and that hole is warm. Thus begins The Game.
Dungeon Crawler Carl is fun, fast-paced, absolutely hilarious - really really funny, and engaging.
It's also kind of gross, gory, and heartbreaking.
I was encouraged to purchase the audiobook because apparently it's brilliant...but I couldn't handle hearing all the gory bits. When reading one can let one's eyes kind of slide over that, but when listening one gets all the detail. Plus it's expensive and someone else said you can enjoy the book without the audio so I just read. And reading it was most enjoyable.
Warning: Addictive. Def going to look into the second book.
Additional warning: Gory, and lots and lots of profanity. And you can't think about what this would be like in reality because it would break your heart too badly and you'd cry a lot. This is not a book for crying. This is a book for escaping reality and laughing.
