This book came highly recommended and is popular, so I had high hopes.
But no.
Margaret was the best, and I love her. And Arthur somewhat. But everyone else was irritating. Even the main protagonists were irritating and unlikable. Some characters are utterly repulsive.
What fully ruined it for me was the devolving of an interesting story that I had hoped would develop, into basically a romance with explicit sex scenes. They sort of came out of nowhere and made no sense - like they'd been stuck in there to be titilating as the author needed to pad the book and this was an easy thing to stick in there.
The story went from an interesting premise to "ewwww no thank you" and from that point on I just wanted to be done. Faugh.
I have to quit reading popular books. nine times out of ten I'm deeply disappointed.
Anyway, if you like your time travel with history mixed in (usually such an awesome thing!) with Bella-and-Edward-type obsession, explicit sex scenes that are not exciting but rather gross, and an unsatisfying ending, this one's for you.
