The book ended and I went, "AAAGGGGHHHHHH!!!!" out loud.
At the start of the book Tommy Orange puts the reader on a rack and with every chapter turns the wheel and ratchets up the tension.
I'm English, and didn't even know Native Americans still existed until I was 19 years old. Yes, really. It was only when I married an American and moved to America that I found out. To say my school taught practically zero about world history is to put it mildly, and the interwebs didn't exist back then so 🤷
As a result this novel (along with Shutter by Ramona Emerson) was quite an education for me.
Highly Highly recommended.
...but only if you don't mind your heart being ripped out.
Also, a warning to those sensitive to it: There was a copious amount of bad language, enough that I was uncomfortable.
Also rape (mentioned, but not detailed), abuse of alcohol, drugs, and people, and the death of loved ones. Lots of death. A heart rending amount of it.
